Hi, I’m Brian Jacobs

Hoping for a private tutor who is authentic and personable?

Great! Because that’s my thing.

Planning for the future, today.

Let's face it, Bergen County is an extremely competitive scholastic environment. Even my son and daughter agree with me, and Dad is always wrong! My goal therefore, is to create a fun, accessible space for learning. Whether keeping up with a subject or studying for a standardized test, I help my students prepare while enjoying themselves. I credit this type of approach with enabling my students to excel in the classroom or knock that test out of the park. I'm here to assist!

What People Are Saying...

“Brian is truly a master of test prep and always gives you the best strategies. Thanks to him, I was able to improve my score over 100 points into the 1500s. While 10 sessions may seem like too many or too few, I personally found that it was the perfect amount of sessions for me. During each session, Brian would focus on your personal SAT needs, making the time much more valuable than taking a generalized SAT course. I would recommend Brian to anyone, starting from any score. No matter what, Brian will be sure to flex to your personal needs to help you do the best you possibly can. Brian was also kind enough to give me personal contacts at certain colleges I was interested in, proving that he goes above and beyond and really cares about the students he tutors. My brothers have also spent time with Brian for enrichment and they love going to prep with Brian as well.”

“We are so pleased with the results of my son’s first SAT score. My son increased his score by 180 points! Brian is my son’s tutor and he is fantastic! He is so knowledgeable, professional and a good mentor to my son. Anytime we reach out to Brian, he is always available. I highly recommend Brian and wished I used him for my older son! “

— Carla

“Highly recommend, I could not be happier with the outcome - my daughter boosted her scores nearly 150 points after just 10 hours of tutoring. We had the pleasure to work with Brian, who was attentive, highly-experienced, and strategic. He was truly vested in our daughters success. Brian considered our daughter’s abilities, her goals, and her schedule and developed an effective and highly-successful strategy to coach her to optimize her skills and academic knowledge. The process was pain free and more than worth her time and our financial investment. We could not be more impressed with the process and the result. Thanks Brian!”

— Deirdre

“My daughter worked with Brian J for SAT prep the past several months and successfully increased her score by 180 points. Brian was patient and adaptable, and really helped my daughter to focus and improve her test outcome. She plans to continue more sessions with Brian and we look forward to potentially increasing her score even more on her next test. Thanks Brian!“

“AWESOME RESULTS! It's as simple as that! My son is a terrible standardized test taker, period. He is now an excellent standardized test taker because of Brian. Brian assessed my son's skill set and planned regimented, focused and thorough study sessions aimed at strengthening his weakest areas and raising his stronger skills to a higher level. I cannot express how happy we are with the results! My son went up 9 points on his ACT through working with Brian. He is now firmly in range of the top tier schools in the country. It wasn't just about the skills and tricks. He got to know my son and recognized that keeping his confidence up during the time leading up to the ACT would be key to executing on the day of the test. Brian accomplished this with flying colors. My son is now closer to his dream of becoming a surgeon because of Brian. We have nothing but the highest praise for him and unequivocally recommend his services.”

A little about myself.

I am a proud Closter dad and licensed attorney who loves to teach! After nine years of practice, I became the head tutor and manager for the Foley Prep Mountain Lakes, NJ location. There, I found my true passion. I tutored students of all ages and learning aptitudes for private school entrance exams, general coursework, AP classes, the SAT and ACT, and college admissions essays. It was a wonderful experience and the results speak for themselves in the numerous 5 star Google reviews received! Aside from tutoring, I have substituted and worked as an aide at Northern Valley Demarest High School, Charles DeWolf Middle School, and Demarest Middle School. I hold teaching certifications in Social Studies and Special Education. I am highly familiar with the curriculum for students K-12th thanks to these experiences as well as helping my children with their coursework. It would be an honor to work with your child or young adult in most any subject.

Brian is a native Californian who graduated summa cum laude from the University of California at San Diego with a B.A. in History and Theatre and Psychology minors. While in San Diego, he enjoyed five minute walks to the beach and tearing his ACL twice while playing for the men’s soccer team. A glutton for punishment, Brian attended law school at UCLA where he received honors for top legal brief submission. More importantly, he met his wife at UCLA law who hails from Cresskill, New Jersey.

In keeping with previous trends of self-punishment, Brian moved from endless sunshine to New Jersey after gaining employment as an associate in a private criminal defense firm in the Bronx. After 6 years of defending hip hop artists, “alleged” mobsters, celebrities, and accumulating countless stories, Brian practiced employment law and professional malpractice to help lower his blood pressure.
